Bar Basso, Milan — SÉRIF

Bar Basso has occupied the corner of Via Plinio and Via Settala in Porta Venezia since 1947. It is the bar where the negroni sbagliato was invented — the version that substitutes Prosecco for gin, the accidental drink created here in the 1960s that has since become a global category. The bar operates on a quiet logic: aperitivo from 6pm, a room that does not shout its history, and the particular quality of a Milanese institution that does not need to perform its significance. During the Salone del Mobile the terrace becomes one of the more observed places in the city; in every other season it belongs to the neighbourhood.
