Bar Jamaica has occupied its corner in Brera since 1911, and the neighbourhood's artistic and intellectual community has been using it as a meeting point for most of that time. Lucio Fontana, Umberto Eco, and the editors of the major Italian design and architecture magazines all had their preferred tables here. The room has not been renovated in the way that would erase its accumulated presence — the zinc bar, the wooden chairs, the particular quality of light through the street-level windows in the afternoon. The coffee is correct; the conversation tends to be more interesting than the menu.
