The Biblioteca di Stato della Repubblica di San Marino — the State Library — holds the archival record of a republic that has been in continuous constitutional operation since 1243. The collection includes the Bulletino della Biblioteca e Museo Governativi (published from 1917), the Sammarinese archive, and a significant collection of material relating to the arts and intellectual history of the republic and the surrounding Apennine region. The library occupies rooms in the government complex on the Monte Titano; the older stacks hold illustrated volumes, manuscripts, and printed ephemera accumulated over three centuries of an independent state. Access is available to researchers and to interested visitors who approach the library directly.
