Brooklyn Warehouse Coffeehouse, New York — SÉRIF

A Brooklyn café in what was once an industrial building — white-painted brick, exposed wooden beams, arched warehouse windows overlooking the street. A tufted brown Chesterfield sofa runs along one wall; bar stools face the counter at the other end; long communal tables occupy the middle. The decorative logic is eclectic in the way that Brooklyn spaces sometimes earn: a globe on the windowsill, an industrial pendant lamp, a cork board of events. The light through the arched windows is good regardless of the hour — the panes are large and the building's orientation puts the sun directly in by mid-morning. The neighbourhood is DUMBO or Williamsburg, depending on the block; the coffee is serious without being performative; the sofa sees sustained occupation from mid-morning to early evening, mostly by people who treat the place with the consideration it extends to them.
