Casa Magazines has been on Eighth Avenue in the West Village since 1972, and the exterior has the particular quality of a shop that has never needed to become something other than what it is. The stock covers several hundred magazine titles from Europe, Asia, and North America — design, architecture, fashion, politics, literary, niche — as well as international newspapers and a selection of cigarettes behind the counter that predates the current consensus on the matter. It is the kind of newsstand that exists to make the city slightly more interesting than it would otherwise be.
