The Designmuseum occupies an 18th-century Rococo hospital building on Bredgade, which gives the Danish modern design collection a setting that is deliberately incongruous and deliberately correct — the Jacobsen chairs and Wegner armchairs read differently against the painted plaster and oak floors of a hospital ward than they would in a purpose-built museum. The chair wall — a curved corridor of individually lit chair specimens from the Danish design canon — is the museum's most photographed installation, and justifiably: it arranges one hundred years of chair-making as both design history and visual argument. The fashion and textile galleries on the upper floors are less-visited and worth the time.
