La Glace has been operating from Skoubogade since 1870, making it the oldest konditori in Denmark. The interior is intact: mirrored walls, mahogany counters, the display case of layer cakes and pastries that is the purpose of the visit. The Sports Cake — a cream cake assembled from macaroon, whipped cream, nougat, and caramelised choux — is the signature and has been since 1891. The clientele on a weekday afternoon tends toward the multigenerational and the purposeful: people who have come here specifically, not incidentally. A few minutes from the Latin Quarter and from Strøget but operating at a completely different pace.
