Made in Blue is a Sofia restaurant that occupies the ground floor of a building that has not been over-renovated — the plaster is bare and marked, the wooden floor is dark and uneven, the windows are the original sashes with the original proportions. The decorative programme is assembled rather than designed: a large face drawn on the plaster wall in outline, a collection of scissor-like forms arranged on the wall opposite, a chandelier of apparent domestic provenance, hanging plants occupying the upper corners. The menu is modern European with the informality of a place that has thought carefully about what it is not trying to be. The lunch is better-priced than the area average. The room at midday, when the light from the three street-facing windows reaches across the floor, is the correct version of what a Sofia restaurant can be when it is not trying to impress.
