Nin, Amsterdam — SÉRIF

Nin is a restaurant in the Amsterdam centre with an interior that has been composed rather than assembled: a ring chandelier hung with multiple red pleated lampshades casts the dining room in warm amber; the wall panels are dark stained wood in the classic Dutch brown café tradition; the tablecloths are white linen; the bentwood chairs at the dining tables are the standard of a room that understands its own language. The bar runs along one side with the whisky and wine selection on shelves behind; framed manuscript pages line the wall above the wainscoting. The atmosphere is the dense, warm interior darkness specific to a certain kind of northern European restaurant — a room where the winter outside is the argument for being inside.
