ร้านเล่า — Raan Lao, which translates loosely as 'Story Shop' — occupies a narrow white shophouse in Chiang Mai's Old City with red-framed windows, shelves of Thai and English titles, and a string of warm bulbs that comes on as the afternoon cools. The stock is curated with real conviction: Thai literature, independent publishing, writing about Southeast Asia. The trees growing through the pavement outside provide the only interruption. One of the more considered bookshops in northern Thailand.
