The Rector's Palace — Knežev Dvor — was the seat of the Republic of Ragusa's government for over four centuries. The building is a Gothic-Renaissance hybrid, rebuilt three times after explosions and earthquakes between the 14th and 17th centuries; each reconstruction added a different architectural register. The loggia arcade — with its carved Corinthian capitals and pointed Gothic arches — faces the Stradun and is one of the more quietly extraordinary pieces of civic architecture in the Adriatic. The interior, now the Cultural History Museum of Dubrovnik, holds furniture, portraits, and objects from the republic's administrative period. The courtyard, where summer concerts are held, is more interesting than most of the collection.
