Sanyod, Bangkok — SÉRIF

Sanyod is a small Thai-Chinese restaurant on a Yaowarat side street — a shophouse operation of the kind that built Bangkok's culinary reputation before the international food press arrived to categorise it. The signage is in Thai script and Chinese characters; the tables are on the pavement and just inside the open facade; the kitchen is visible from the street. Long-exposure photographs of cars passing produce the light-trail effect that frames it at night: a moment of stillness against the movement of a city that hasn't stopped. The cooking is traditional Thai-Chinese: roast duck, braised pork, rice porridge — dishes that reward return visits rather than single-evening exploration.
