Portland Saturday Market, Portland — SÉRIF

Portland Saturday Market operates under the Burnside Bridge in Old Town on Saturdays and Sundays from March through December — a covered outdoor market of independent makers, food vendors, and craftspeople that has occupied this space since 1974. Over 250 vendors across two days: handmade ceramics, leather work, jewellery, printed textiles at the standard that comes from people who make what they sell. The food stalls run from Peruvian to Thai; the coffee is from local roasters. The Saturday edition is the original and denser; Sunday allows slower looking at individual stalls. The arch at the Old Town entrance is the landmark image, but the market itself is best understood at the back of the food section, where the crowd thins and the stall-holders are speaking to each other.
