Seoul Botanic Park, Seoul — SÉRIF

Seoul Botanic Park opened in 2019 on the former site of Gimpo Airport in Magok, Gangseo-gu — a district subject to large-scale urban development whose cultural infrastructure is still arriving. The park's centrepiece is a botanical greenhouse with a distinctive double-shell glass and aluminum structure: two large dome volumes connected by a bridge, with a topographic garden on the roof and thematic greenhouses below. The scale is large and the architecture genuinely ambitious; the plant collection inside — a thousand species from twelve climate zones — gives the visit a scientific coherence that many botanical parks lack. The surrounding open meadow and waterside paths are best in early morning before the park fills. The Magok location requires a specific journey; arrive via subway and walk in from the western entrance for the best approach to the greenhouse.
