The Spicy Librarian is an independent bookshop on South Broadway with an installation that does not let you forget you are in a bookshop: a tower of stacked books rises through the stairwell, floor to ceiling, wrapped with garlands of more books suspended from the ceiling above. It is a declaration of intent rather than a storage solution. The selection is strong on literary fiction and staff picks; the space is narrow and vertical, and the overall effect is of a place that takes its subject seriously while enjoying itself.
