The Coffee is a small specialty bar in the lower city — the Baixa — with the polished concrete walls and floating wooden shelves that indicate a serious approach to sourcing and a clear sense of what the space needs to be. The La Marzocco espresso machine is the statement; everything else in the room is arranged to not compete with it. The bags of single-origin coffee on the shelves are for purchase as well as for drinking. The counter faces the street through a glass display; the cobblestones visible outside are the Baixa's standard surface, which is why the interior calm registers here as something more considered than it might elsewhere. A small place that does not need to be larger.
