Reached via a narrow close off the Royal Mile — the illuminated sign at the end of an alley is the only indication of what is below. The bar occupies a converted Victorian pump house: exposed stone walls, high ceilings, and a malt whisky selection that takes Scotland seriously. The approach — down the alley, then down the stairs — creates a specific arrival feeling that most Edinburgh bars spend a great deal of effort trying to manufacture and this one simply inherited.
